7B. Birding tour Medellin Jardin 2 days
Birdwatching from Medellín to Jardín 2–3 day birding : endemic, exotic & iconic Andean habitats
Service Description
Departing at 6:00 a.m., our transportation will pick you up directly from your hotel for a scenic journey southwest of Medellín to the beautiful colonial town of Jardín, Antioquia, considered one of the most beautiful towns in South America and one of Colombia’s top birdwatching destinations. After a breakfast stop along the way, we arrive around 9:30 a.m. to begin this unforgettable birding adventure. Our first stop is the famous Oilbird Cave, home to the fascinating Oilbirds (Guácharos), one of the world’s most unique nocturnal bird species. After crossing a spectacular hanging Tibetan bridge over the river, you will have the opportunity to observe and photograph these incredible birds in their natural habitat. Along the route, we may also observe species such as the Torrent Duck, Red-bellied Grackle, mountain toucans, barbets, tanagers, hummingbirds, and many endemic cloud forest birds. After lunch, we continue in the town to photograph the spectacular Andean Cock-of-the-rock before ascending into the mountains toward Alto de Ventanas at 2,800 meters (9,180 ft). At sunset, we will witness the magical arrival of flocks of endangered Yellow-eared Parrots returning to the towering Wax Palms, Colombia’s national tree, an unforgettable experience surrounded by pristine cloud forest and breathtaking mountain landscapes. We spend the night in a beautiful mountain cabin overlooking untouched forest. The next morning, we visit Mirador del Roble, one of the region’s best birding locations, searching for species such as the Yellow-eared Parrot, Hooded Mountain Tanager, Antpittas, hummingbirds, and many other high-Andean birds. Around 2:00 p.m., we return to Jardín for lunch before departing back to Medellín at 4:00 p.m., arriving at your hotel later that evening.
